PILLING

Pilling is quite natural and doesn’t mean your knitwear is poor quality. In most cases those tiny bobbles of fluff are caused by friction, but washing can help to reduce them. Before you wash your knitwear, we recommend using a pilling comb to de-pill the surface of those bobbles. Following the length of the garment, draw the comb gently but firmly over the affected area. Once they are removed, follow the care label for washing instructions. Regular washing will also help to minimize the appearance of pilling.

HOW TO WASH YOUR CASHMERE

Washing your cashmere garment separately by hand will always produce the best results. Fill your clean sink or basin with cool water adding the recommended amount of specialist liquid detergent, baby shampoo also works well as it’s very mild and gentle on this delicate yarn. Turn your garment inside out and submerge in the soapy water, gently squish the water through the fabric leaving to soak for 5 minutes. Spot treat any stains with a small amount of neat detergent and gently massage. Rinse thoroughly in clean cool water using the same squishing action until the water is clear. Gently squeeze out the excess water.

DRYING

After washing, place your cashmere on top of a clean towel on a flat surface. Gently roll the towel and your cashmere together to remove any excess water. Then reshape your garment back into shape on a drying rack or a fresh towel. Cool iron on the reverse if necessary.

EXPERT TIPS

Always remember to handle your garment with care as this is a delicate fabric, never hang as the weight may alter its shape and fit. Furthermore, avoid tumble drying as this is the quickest way to shrink your cashmere clothing.

If you are storing your knitwear over a seasonal period, first make sure that it’s freshly laundered as dirt, stains and sweat can attract moths. We recommend placing your clean garments in a cloth storage bag with cedar balls or lavender sachets as these naturally repel moths and keep your cashmere smelling fresh.
